Building Confidence and Fortitude: Keys to Success in Life

It is difficult to succeed in life without some form of confidence though confidence alone is not enough to guarantee success. We also need the strength of mind to see things through even in the face of danger, pain, or adversity. This perseverance can come from various sources, such as passion, anger, or the feeling of victory. However, it is important to appropriately guide and direct these sources of perseverance so that it is used effectively.

As a parent, you need to help your child build confidence and develop the fortitude to persevere, particularly from the passion for victory. Encouraging your child to prioritise studying over binge playing computer games or watching movies may require some effort, but it will yield success in their academic assessments or exams. When children realise that better performance comes from the perseverance of studying, it strengthens their confidence that they can excel in other areas as well.

Perseverance is important in every aspect of life, as Matthew 24:13 says, “He who will have persevered to the end will be saved.” To achieve confidence and fortitude, two approaches are required. The first approach is to prepare the mind so that your child has the necessary mentality to approach great and challenging tasks with confidence and hope. The second approach involves execution, where perseverance is required to follow through on tasks with confidence and determination.
